The 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship begins Thursday, September 29, in Mississippi. You can find full Round 1 tee times for the tournament at the bottom of this post.

The PGA Tour is back in Mississippi this week at The Country Club of Jackson, and the winner of last year’s event is back in town, too. Sam Burns, who captured his second of four career victories at last year’s Sanderson Farms, is eyeing his second-straight title in Jackson.

Burns is currently ranked No. 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and he’s fresh off his debut appearance on the U.S. team at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, which the Americans won in commanding fashion. That makes him an easy choice for betting favorite.

A few other President Cup competitors will also tee it up in Jackson, including International team members Sebastian Munoz and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. Burns will play the first two rounds alongside Bezuidenhout and Chad Ramey

Burns’ group will tee off for the opening round at 1:28 p.m. ET. You can stream Thursday’s first round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+.

The 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship gets underway this week at The Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.

Sanderson Farms preview

With the Presidents Cup out of the way, the PGA Tour kicks back into gear with the second tournament of the new 2022-23 PGA Tour season. At the season’s first event, Max Homa successfully defended his 2021 title to win his second-straight Fortinet Championship.

By: Kevin Cunningham

This week, the defending champion is one of the most promising Americans in the game: Sam Burns. When Burns won the Sanderson Farms last year, it represented only his second career win. But in the time since he’s added two more to bring his total to four.

More importantly, one of those 2022 wins was the Valspar Championship, which he won in March for the second year in a row. Can he do the unlikely and earn another title defense and two-fer this week? You’ll have to follow along to find out.

Golf Channel will provide exclusive TV coverage of the Sanderson Farms Championship, and PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ and NBCSports.com will stream the action online.

As Wesley Bryan prepared to play his tee shot on the par-3 3rd hole at the Monday qualifier for the Sanderson Farms Championship earlier this week, he made an unfortunate discovery.

The 7-iron in his hands at Deerfield GC, in Mississippi, was not his gamer club.

“That’s the wrong 7-iron,” Bryan said, throwing back his head and cackling. “You can go ahead and add four to my score, boys.”

As in four penalty strokes. Trouble was, not only did Bryan have the wrong club in his hands but the right one was also in his bag, meaning he was carrying 15 clubs, or one more than the rules allow. That’s a two-stroke penalty for each hole on which the offense was committed, or, in Bryan’s case, four strokes in all.

“Wait, hold on,” said Bryan’s caddie, Matt Atkins, as he began counting his man’s clubs. (Atkins actually began the qualifier as a contestant but withdrew after 10 holes and soon after assumed looping duties for his pal Bryan.)

“Yeah, we definitely have too many,” Bryan said, still chuckling. “We have two 7-irons in there.”

Indeed, they did.

“Can you imagine if we were, like, four or five [under] at this point?”

It’s unclear what Bryan’s score was at that point, because he didn’t turn in his card. But presumably the course record was not in danger.

Bryan did play on, though. With the right 7-iron in hand, he addressed his ball on the par-3, drew back his club and … ugh. His one-armed follow-through suggested he didn’t like the result, as did his comical post-shot commentary:

“Maybe I should have hit the other 7-iron.”

Give Bryan credit for finding humor in what was a dire situation in a cutthroat 18-hole event where every shot is precious.

Bryan, who won the 2017 RBC Heritage and also three titles on the Korn Ferry Tour, has been ranked as high as 37th in the world. He also has developed a loyal following, along with his brother George, for his trick-shot artistry.

With the Presidents Cup in the rearview, the new PGA Tour season kicks back into gear with the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship. According to the Sanderson Farms Championship betting odds via BetMGM, a few Presidents Cup competitors are among the betting favorites. Here’s what you need to know.

2022 Sanderson Farms Championship odds: This week’s favorites

Sam Burns made his U.S. team debut last week at Quail Hollow, but despite the Americans’ big win, things didn’t go so smoothly for the rookie. Burns finished 0-3-2 for the week, but those results don’t seem to be factoring into his odds to win the Sanderson Farms, where he’s the defending champion. Burns leads the way as the betting favorite at +1000.

By: GOLF Editors

Two other Presidents Cuppers find themselves in the Top 10 in odds to win, and both of them were rookie members of the International squad at Quail Hollow: Sebastian Munoz (+2800) and Christiaan Bezuidenhout (+3300).

Sitting in second place in betting odds this week is rising star and likely future U.S. team member Sahith Theegala. The 24-year-old Californian is on the hunt for his first PGA Tour victory after a solid season last year. He comes into the Sanderson Farms with +1800 odds to win.

2022 Sanderson Farms Championship odds: Long shot of the week

Our long shot for this week is a familiar face and a blast from the past: Rory Sabbatini. Although he’s currently ranked 220th in the Official World Golf Ranking, the 46-year-old is a six-time PGA Tour winner who has shown flashes of his younger self in recent years.

By: Michael Bamberger

Last season, Sabbatini made 11 cuts in 18 starts, and he had a legitimate shot to win the Shriners Children’s Open in October, eventually finishing T3, his best result since 2019.

At +15000 odds to win, should Sabbatini pull off an unlikely victory this week, he could turn a modest $10 bet into $1,500.
